Thread regarding Teradata Corp. layoffs

Talent Naivety

I worked at Teradata for more than 5 years (probably 4 years too many IMHO).

The saddest thing I observed, and refused to be part of, was the lack of recognition of true talent and skills and being forced to let them to.

You only need to look at LinkedIn to see where some of the people who have left Teradata have ended up. Impressive

I fail to understand why TD would take the effort to recruit great people and then make no effort to retain them – or worse still let them go. In Europe I've seen such a brain drain, I'd be surprised if TD can' turn the light on, let alone change the light bulb if it went out.

It costs to recruit talent and skills. Why not make more effort to retain that talent?

It's a 'churn & burn' culture, constant cycle of layoff and hiring, we all realized that

I believe a lot of the talent left when they brought up new, innovative ideas in an effort to help situations and were simply told "we've done it like this for 20 years so we know it works". This would make sense if you were in a kitchen but in the world of technology, what worked 5 years ago is outdated. And to say to a customer "when I was in the field, we did it like this" is lunacy. It highlights that our methods and process are no longer relevant.
