I was recently contacted by a recruited who wanted to know if I would be interested in another company. This company is pretty well known for often having layoffs. I told him I would have to think about it and will get back to him. To be honest I am not sure if I’d want to consider it. It would be like going from the frying pan into the fire. But then again, it would give me an opportunity to leave, and that's something I've been wanting to do for a while now. What does everyone think?

You should never be open and stay at Qualcomm until you get laid off! It’s the right thing to do!
@1hsj+1apxbhCB would you mind sharing which department it was in QCOM?
Depends on how often you are willing to relocate. Switching jobs in this day and age is the most effective way to grow your career and increase your income, however, it comes at the cost of having to relocate every few years. I was let go from Qcom in 2015 during the big layoff and it was the best things that happened to me back then. My career was stagnant at Qcom and the culture in my department was very depressing. I was able to find a better job with a higher salary. Currently, I have been looking for my next move but I am waiting until the fog clears up so I can travel and have onsite interviews as I don't believe in the video interviews.
In general it is easy to get pigeonholed doing the same thing. Moving around is sometimes the only way to grow. I was told this is how msft lays people off: Your project is done. You have three months to sign on to another group. Otherwise, you are done. Sometimes wish other companies would buy into that. Some companies tend to think these are great manager candidates..
