Thread regarding Raymond James Financial Inc. layoffs

Had to take what I could

I just accepted a position outside of finance. It’s not my dream job (at my age does one even exist anymore?) but it does have decent pay and benefits. I begin next week and am actually looking forward to it. It’s WFH and while the position is totally out of my element at least they provide training. I truly hope that those who are still looking don’t give up.

Congratulations on securing employment! Work 60 hours per week for the first 90 days. Watch everybody else's work habits. See who gets the recognition and emulate them.

I was laid off from IT about 20 years ago, right after Y2K was solved, dot.com bubble burst, and during a small recession.

I got a job teaching mathematics at a local community college.

One day, a student came in for help. I asked him why he was studying mathematics. "So, I can get a job in the computer industry, like my father." That is what you call an opportunity.

Hi father knew somebody who knew somebody who was hiring. And, it was me they hired.

You never know. You just never know.

I had a background in insurance before working at RJ and I actually ended up going back to that after being laid off. I was never too keen on the financial industry and am more than happy to get back into a field that I enjoy. It's actually been very refreshing. Hoping that you will feel the same way as you head down your new path. Best of luck!
