Thread regarding Giant Eagle layoffs

What's going on with GE?

It's been four years since I was laid off but that turned out to be one of the best things to happen to me. When I remember the work atmosphere and culture I escaped...I know I dodged a bullet. Are things still as bad as they used to be? Or has anything improved since then? I really hope it did, I know a lot of good people who worked there and they all deserve much better.

On the IT side, they are finally getting around to achieving what Anuj wanted to do years ago; outsource the majority of IT functions to India. Mandatory WFH during Covid has proven to them that most of the work can be done remotely. IT employees that leave are backfilled with contractors. Slowly but surely, they will achieve massive cost savings in salary at the expense of local talent.

Many are bolting since the writing is on the wall.

It's horrible, we have a revolving door of new hires every three months. People just stop showing up for work or quit after finding a job that actually pays more. And the people who show up for work are punished. We are forced to work with a skeleton crew on top of that deal with customers dogging us out because there's not enough cashiers. I want to make cards of our corporate office number and hand those out to them, it's not my fault that corporate wants to cut hours down for maximum profits!!

I know for the retail side, Giant Eagle has changed the scheduling around point accumulation, changed it for more streamline and removed one day for excused absences. Three excuses absences now down to two. Also it would appear as if the central Ohio stores are looking for more hiring events (not that they weren't already doing that), it seems like they slightly pushing more.
