Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Avenel, NJ Kmart just confirmed is closing

Employees are bummed. I was there today and the manager basically just told everyone. Closing set for on/around July 15th.

I'm sad because it's my home Kmart.... and I really liked that store. :(

The once omnipresent retailer will see its number of U.S. locations drop to three next month, with the closing of the Avenel, N.J., store. That’s scheduled to occur on April 17, which will leave Kmart with just three locations nationwide—in Westwood, N.J., Long Island, N.Y., and Miami.

Unless Avenel is actually closing, this entire thread should be deleted.

That post has nothing to do with Avenel, the purpose of this thread.

So just to be clear this never happened. That poor dude was pilloried in here for just asking people to be patient and wait for proof before believing this nonsense. And it turns out he was absolutely right. This store is not currently closing so he is completely vindicated. Moral of the story is never jump to conclusions. Verify more, post less. Or else you end up with disasters such as this thread. I will never declare a closing without proof. OP failed.

Another typo, I meant "we will necessarily" not "we well necessarily".

To the poster below this, let's be clear. You THINK the announcement will come April 22 Or May 6. That's a reasonable guess, but it is just a guess, as you stated yourself. But we do not Know that as fact. It's quite possible we get some, or we might not get any at all. Maybe the next round won't be until Summer, maybe it will be Next Week, or maybe we don't even get any more until 2022. Or maybe none of the above. We just simply don't Know.

Also I don't think the predictions of closing stores you made for the next round is accurate. Of course, just a guess on my part as well, but Bridgehampton/White Plains both have multiple Full–Time jobs listed, which usually (at the every least) indicates it won't be closing in the next round. Ditto for Marshall MI, which, in addition to having Full–Time openings, he might just be keeping open out of nostalgia, because Kmart's birthplace was in MI and it is the last store there. It would be quite symbolic if the last Kmart in Michigan closes, and I'm not sure he's quite ready to "go there" just yet. I think the same is true for the last Sears in Illinois, just for the symbolic gesture of keeping one Sears in IL, and one Kmart in MI, the birthplace of each of those brands.

I think some of your other guesses are reasonable, but again, bear in mind, that it is theoretically possible that we don't even get any more closings in 2021. There is no proof or guarantee that we well necessarily get any more whatsoever.
But since we're throwing guess out there, I think the 3 remaining NJ stores (2 Kmarts, 1 Sears), might be ones to look at. The 2 remaining NJ Kmarts (one of which someone falsely claimed was closing here), are practically boarded up with sections of the stores walled off and empty. As for the Jersey City Sears, people have been mentioning for a while it might be closing and I don't think it has any job openings listed, so keep an eye on NJ to be wiped out.

Full disclosure, again, that is just conjecture on my part. We could get all the stores announced as closing Tomorrow, or we could get no more closings at all in 2021, or anywhere in between those 2 extremes. We just simply don't Know.

Everything on the SB360 link (except Rancho, Key Largo, and Marathon) is closing on May 2. Of course, the previous round's stores are still listed on there for now, but will probably drop off by Tomorrow.

What store is closing on May 2nd?

Post ID: @3vtr+1aohFQQ6

Obviously, this was all false. No closing was confirmed here, because none is currently happening. The store is NOT closing. That's why stuff like this cannot be believed without evidence, to avoid debacles such as this post.

Chicago Ridge I dont think is closing either along with Hamilton Kmart. Hamilton is a tourist destination with its classic sign design.

Publicly denying closing usually immediately precedes closing. Usually the more vigorously it’s denied by company operatives the more true the rumor.

To whoever keeps commenting about the Chicago Ridge Sears closing, you're late to the party, as this store was confirmed to close months ago and is finishing liquidation.
