Thread regarding Wind River Systems Inc. layoffs

would you recommend working at WR as a new hire?

have an offer for professional services org that is a decent pay bump but from reviews around this and other parts of the web, it seems current state of WR leaves something to be desired.

is it true that TPG is cutting costs at WR?

is there lack of direction and market strategy??

I'm interviewing with Windriver now, was laid off by Ford recently. All companies have issues, the "grass is not greener" anywhere else. My recommendation (30 years exp) is if the pay and work assignment meets your goals then go with it. Meanwhile, never assume you have stability and security regardless of the nice words from management about you being "family", etc. Periodically look at job postings on linkedIn or your favorite job site to see what skills are in demand. Try to position yourself to have those skills. Don't plan on staying anywhere longer than 8-10 years. Thats all my advice. If Windriver hires me, it will be as contract thru an agency with a possible term of 12 months. Not expecting stability. But its fine for now, will pay the bills.

Agree with the first response. WR can be an outstanding place if you are in the right group and involved in the right projects. Some of the best people I've ever worked with and some of the worst people as well. Steer clear of the politicians and career 'do nothing' people and your time at WR will be rewarding.

Yes and yes to your questions.

I would base your decision on what is best for you. I have no idea what your current circumstances are. If you can improve your lot in life and your pay by taking a job here, then do it. Just be aware that there are problems here, just like there are problems and every other work places in the world. Just because there’s problems at a workplace, doesn’t mean you can’t stay positive and make the best of things.
