Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Mixed feelings?

The rumors about the upcoming layoffs worry me but at the same time I can't wait for that to happen. I would feel very disappointed to be laid off here after so many years, but on the other hand, I'm tired of feeling anxious about it and I'm ready for whatever happens. I’m less and less worried, and if I find myself on the layoff list I'm more than ready to move on.

We had a coach last year that said the same thing. “ you have to be fake to succeed in this world.” That never left my mind

Man you got that right. If their is one thing I've learn when I was a manager, People do not work for me, they do not work for a company, they do not work for anyone, they work to put food on the table, they work to pay rent or the mortgage, rent, gas, bus fare, utilities, schools, insurance, Doctor visits and so on, people work for themselves and once we all understand this concept we would be a lot better off IMHO.

After 20 years at Optum I was so invested in my job I literally thought I might not survive my layoff. I was devastated. But now, a year later, I feel so much better. I found a better job and am loving learning new things (including a new, healthier workplace culture). Go forward with confidence in yourself whether you are laid off soon or not.

I was laid off last June after 12 years (GL 31). Best thing to ever happen to me. Had an offer within 5 weeks and cannot believe I stayed as long as I did. Looking back, my last 3 years at Optum were incredibly miserable. My new company is polar opposite.

The problem is the company can make money based on the business model despite layoffs and reorganizations. As long as that process continues, you never see rational behavior by senior leaders. That is the toxic environment.

The funny thing is that the leadership knows they are toxic. They play a good game and do as told by their leaders. The incentives are geared that way.

Not every company is like this. But the best paying companies are like this.

I have to agree. The only thing I regret about my layoff is that it didn't happen sooner.

Getting let go from UHC after 20 years was the best thing ever to happen to me.

I look at it as a blessing in disguise! Toxic is not healthy.
