Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Why Do Some Kmarts & Sears leave their signs up after closing?

Many of the recent store closings it has been documented that the signage is still up on the building. Does anyone know why? It seems like as part of the closing process, the Transformco or the Liquidator would be responsible for taking the signs down from the building.

It's got to be really disappointing for people who dont know about the few open Kmarts and Sears traveling to see a Kmart or Sears sign and then come to find out it is a shuttered store.

Any idea why lately they seem to be leaving the signs on the building after closing?

They hope that if a Kohls takes over, they will buy the "K".

Ultimately it's the mall's decision. When our Sears store closed last year we started to have the signage taken down but the mall stopped us and wouldn't let us do it. They said an empty building with no signage would reflect poorly on the mall. Eventually, months later, the mall had it removed.

It’s cheaper to leave the sign up. It’s the next tenants problem.

When our store closed every last fixture, shelf, desk, chair, that did not sell was left in the store. We even left the last of the trash there since our dumpster service was cancelled two weeks before out last day. Corporate did not want to pay to have them scrapped or trashed.
On our last day we were ripping the computer and phone lines out of the wall, disconnecting the KIN system and taking down the wifi routers from the ceiling to send back. We sent our main computer back without wiping the data on it because the people who were suppose to send the code to start the deletion called 15 minutes before the truck came to pick up the last of the equipment and we had already disconnected it.
The landlord showed up to get the keys when we were walking out the door and was wondering why all the fixtures were still in the store. We could only tell him to call corporate. This was in 2017. Wonder if this is still the way they do it.

It's got to be really disappointing for people who find a Kmart or Sears still open, and then once inside see that their inventory is basically just Christmas decorations left over from years ago, and approximately 1200 folding lawn chairs in various colors.

@vwe+1ageJ5Sf exactamundo. there used to be a lot of liquidators that worked with Eddie, but since Eddie didn't have the cash until he sold Innovel, they up and left. Well, only the ones he didn't screw over during the bankruptcy proceedings. Only SB360 is dumb enough to get screwed over by him now.

probably because Eddie has not paid the person that takes the signs down
