Middle of the month layoffs are common because THE COMPANY ONLY CARRIES YOUR BENEFITS THRU THE END OF THE MONTH THAT YOU ARE RELEASED FROM EMPLOYMENT. Layoff April 15 with actual last day of employment being April 29... YOUR MEDICAL BENEFITS WILL TERM THE NEXT DAY APRIL 30. Prepare yourself and your family; get everything done while you have the coverage because COBRA is astronomical.
It's mixed emotions... somewhere between "I can't wait to get this over" and "So excited to find a career with good pay and benefits."
Just found out a tech I know had her job "eliminated" last week (read sent offshore to a cheap phillipines tech). They never really "eliminate" positions here... They just move them off shore for that cheap cheap india and phillipines labor.
The day is April 15th. I never understood why middle of the month layoffs occur so much in other health plans.
I was wondering the same thing about 4/8. Someone posted earlier that there might be layoffs 4/8, 4/15, 4/22, and 4/29.
I guess we'll wait to see what happens on 4/15.
