Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

I used to be proud to work here

I have to say, this is not the same company it was five years ago, not to mention twenty years ago or longer. All of the enjoyment and pride I've had has evaporated and I'm no longer sure I'll be able to stay here for much longer. It might not be easy to find a new job but it'll be worth it to leave a place that no longer values knowledge and experience and instead elevates and values mediocrity. I'm very much done with that.

We all use to be proud to work for them, now we are demoralized, we have no idea if we have a job tomorrow, rumors are the North America Business Support Center is being outsourced, like Europe and divisions of our India Support Center.

I worked there as an employee for 10 years, then left for 15 years to work elsewhere, and then returned as a contractor. I was shocked how much the company had changed (degenerated) in those 15 years. Now it sounds like it has gone to h___ in a hand basket, as the old saying goes.

OP is right. There used to be three things that were great about Exxon and then EM:

  • world-class training and opportunities to learn from very experienced co-workers
  • best (relative) job security in the industry
  • realistic chances to get a (nice) pension

All of these three have been systematically eliminated. Instead, we get insulting orders to disregard what we see and believe instead that the now permanent “Hunger Games” are not about personnel reduction and anyway, it’s all for our benefit.
What is there left to be proud of ?

Bye bye. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.
