Thread regarding Shell Oil layoffs

Did I Make A Mistake Coming Here...down stream engineer

Hello I'm an engineer here. Almost 2 years ago I decided to come to Shell over a petrochemical company (think Ineos, chevron phillips etc). Shell paid 10% more. I think I am starting to regret that decision...in my 2 years here...5 refineries have been sold/ put for sale or shutdown. I still have a job after reshape but This is so unnerving, wonder if it will get better. I threw out a couple applications but no response. I think I'm screwed lol.

Many more regrets to come Shell doesn’t care if it takes 2 people to replace you.

For years the hourly personnel were getting laid off and the things that were said is hourly personnel are lazy and don’t want to perform their jobs, while more and more regulations were put in place to force more hourly personnel out the door and these regulations were put in place by engineers. Sure seems different when the regulators are being forced out.

Chemical companies were laying off people too so it wouldn’t have been better. Maybe consider bettering your self? Shell offers LinkedIn learning for a start so maybe you can try learning some skills other than manager a– kissing because showing off that skill doesn’t get you anywhere in an interview.

They don’t need your dated skills. You should consider starting your own business; going door-to-door selling Fuller Brushes, Amway, Kirby Vacuum Cleaners or subscriptions to Boys Life.
