Seeing similar talk of a merger between OXY, COP and PXD all over their layoff sites as well. Pretty scary or exciting if this is true depending on how you look at it.

I sure hope this is true so we can get a real leader and dump VH.
She has single handily destroyed two great companies.
Many were not eligible for COC. The VSP was a fraction of the COC package and those who kept their jobs are probably better off than those who took the VSP.
At one point the Anadarko - Oxy buyout was a rumor. Look how that turned out.
Like everything else posted on this website, this has zero credibility.
Where did the $32 valuation come from? Seen somewhere online? Or just another rumor?
You don’t have a choice in taking the COC. It isn’t voluntary unless it is offered to you.
"'Please tell me this rumor is true. If so I could potentially redeem myself from the d-mbest decision of my life - not taking the fat LAPC package when it was first offered."
Why did you not take that fat COC, yur an id--t."

Would think there would be strong opposition from the anti-oil regime in the White House now.

It is only possible. Not acquisition, but merger is possible. Yes. Oxy has much debt, but it beats Conocophilips and PXD in FCF by far. And I am not talking about the B.S. FCF that they give on their presentation. Oxy makes true FCF of ~$1 billion dollars (after interest payment, after warren buffet) quarterly at the current rate.
Seems like a great deal at $32 per share value for $OXY. With oil at $65 assets should be $65/share. But it’s also a 24% premium to Friday’s close so you really can’t say no...
