Thread regarding Hy-Vee layoffs

Do you still like working here?

I'm one of the old-timers here, two decades and counting. I always enjoyed my job and was satisfied with my pay and benefits, until recently. Things seem to be changing around here. It's much less about respecting your employees and much more about profit at any cost. Frankly, this has dampened my enjoyment in my work significantly. I'm hoping there's a way for us to go back to the way things were, but I doubt it.

Wow,26 yrs of service, that's awesome. You hit the nail right on the head.Corporate could care less who you are what you did and what your plans are. They are like you said very self absorbed. Its sure not like having Hobt,Robertson, and all those guys from yesteryear who would come around and actually take a personal interest in you. NO COMPANY IS TO BIG TO FAIL.

I have 26 years of service and am no longer loyal to Hy-Vee. Started looking at other opportunities outside the company. Just beginning my search and see a lot of promising possibilities. It stopped being fun working here about 6 or 7 years ago. I had hoped things would improve but it has only gotten worse. Corporate visitors used to be friendly. Now they don't stop looking at their phones long enough to give you the time of day. They used to ask how you were doing and how is the family and other small talk. We're expected to engage the customer which I enjoy regardless. Yet our higher ups don't engage us.
When we find out corporate visitors are coming we are expected to drop everything and quickly try to make the store look as best we can. And yet our leaders are OK to let the things slide for our customers in the name of labor savings. I guess I'm just tired of the bull$!+.

Hello fellow old timers,I totally agree ,things have totally changed and not for the better.Corporate people used to at least speak to you ,now the just ignore you.Whats with that, they put their pants on the same as everyone else, one leg at a time. Some people just forget where they come from. Just aweful.

Hello old-timer, you are not alone, I've seen soo many of my mentors and older generations retiring earlier than normal, It's not the same Hy-vee anymore, what a shame, all store directors know this as well but they don't talk about it... I would encourage all to really look into to other grocery employment if that's your skill.
