After each round of cuts, it gets harder for those who stay here. I have survived several rounds of layoffs and now for the first time I hope to be on the list of the next layoffs that are being talked about more and more.
I don't think I'm the only one? The amount of work and tensions are unbearable. I wouldn’t want to offend those who got hurt by getting laid off, but I think in the long run everyone is better off than those who stay here.

THE END IS NEAR
I went to work for a local energy company.
I have military background so that helped. But look in federal government and local government jobs.
Where did you guys go to work after the railroad?
I go laid off last year after 10 years as a carmen. Best thing that ever happened to me i work for a better company and pays better. The grass is greener and the skills toi get from the railroad are very transferable to other industries railroad sucks man.
Walk away, I did it last year after 10 years mechanical. I wasn't laid off just saw the writing on the wall. I'm much happier. Got a 4 10's schedual with every holiday off. Also off Friday through Sunday. Ibdont miss it at all. I do still occasionally check on here to see what's going on. I feel bad for all the good guys still working there. Unfortunately there is to many lazy employees that won't make it outside of that environment.
Nobody wants to hear your sad story. You have the power to walk away but then you realize you have zero skills and the job you did at the railroad does not compare in real life so you stay and cry to other people on this website.
Man up Ryan
Why wait for them to do it? Line something up and bolt. So say you survive again. Then what , live with the anxiety and wait for the next time? The way they’re just closing complete shops with no care? Eh-eh get out with dignity in hand. Save a finger for them.
I’m actually hoping to get laid off. It’s a shame that I’ve given so many years to the railroad just for it to fall apart like this to corporate and shareholder greed. This industry is dead for us. We had a good run while it lasted.
Yeah, I ran out of being a “Tough minded optimist” a loooooong time ago
