Thread regarding Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) layoffs

No regrets leaving?

I believe there is no one who would want to return here after they've left? If I had known that I would have a much better job after HPE than I had there, I would have left long ago. That’s the only thing I regret, that I didn’t have the courage to leave much earlier. Always look for better options!

After 14 years with HP/HPE I am glad I made the decision to leave when I did. I now make 56% more in salary than I did when I left the company. With much less work.

I was HPQ/HPE for 13 years. I worked with the last bastion of DEC folks. I loved the time I spent at HPE but ultimately everyone around me was coasting. I had a great group and wish nothing but the best but I would never go back.

Like all other ex-HPE employees, I was immediately put on a pedestal and recognized for my brilliance at the new company. They doubled my pay AND wrote HPE a letter telling them what fools they were to let me go! A HUGE pay increase it just waiting for your if you will only quit! Everyone is doing it!

Or ...

Heres the thing. From reading these comments, it really seems like HPE is not one company, but many companies under one umbrella. Sounds like most of the pi---d off and laid off folks, were in businesses that are quickly being made expendable by the greater market (cloud). Many of the folks I work with in my specific storage group (where vast majority of profit for all of HPE comes from), actually love their jobs, and are treated quite well. The pay and the 'bonuses' are sh-t compared to the greater market, that's for certain. The laid back nature of my job though, is a rare thing indeed. With that said, I see corporate HPE policies invading our group and our culture. For example, with 12 million+ US folks on unemployment benefits of one kind or another, I notice my group is only hiring visa holders from India, as a result of using HPE's outsourced HR/recruiting firm, which seems to only pass on these candidates to us for interview. Overall though, definitely a sinking ship. You will definitely get a 15-35% pay raise if you find a different gig right now.

I got out of HPE before they cut salaries and I feel fortunate. Now, I get to design hardware, firmware, and software. I actually look forward to work again. At HPE, I spent most of my time chasing obscure, intermittent hardware and firmware bugs introduced by overpaid architects.

You wouldn’t quit a good job. I certainly wouldn’t.

@5jrz+1aQmLWZO "But if the offer was good and it fit your other needs, go back, take the money and then leave when it goes south. : "Then leave when it goes South." When's the last time you've left HPE and went job hunting? How many times have you returned to HPE? HPE is chaos and everything it touches heads South. There is so much turnovers, churn, and fox ho-e mentality. There were days when I asked myself "is this the day I quit? Is this the day I get laid off?" HPE is a Hot mess! Why would anyone put themselves through so much misery? There are much better companies out there. I took the buyout package in March of 2020 and found a job making 21% more. HPE is a dying company. I troll this site to read the comments, shake my head, gloat and count my blessings that I left. I would never return.

Why wouldn't you return if they offered you enough money? It would be stupid to not do it. Return only because it's HPE or HPI? Heck no. That IS stupid. But if the offer was good and it fit your other needs, go back, take the money and then leave when it goes south. Repeat as needed.

But you need to be in it only for the money. The company is not your friend. Not even your best friend/manager can save you. But for enough money, who cares.

"I believe there is no one who would want to return here after they've left?"
Of course not. If they laid me off, there's no incentive to go back. My new job increased my pay by over 10%, I am in a higher skill level, and they actually appreciate my feedback on innovative ideas and providing stronger business initiatives.

Ever since I got laid off in July 2020, I have heard so many bad things. Lots of people quitting... oh I didn't realize that ALL of ProLiant RnD went to Taiwan and India. That's not surprising. The company's valuation (according to their investors) is STILL rather poor.

With this chip shortage going on, I have a gut feeling that HPE is still performing like they did at the beginning of COVID where supply chain was really in trouble.

Godspeed to those who are still there. The only reason why I would go back is to work with my friends that I made there... but they sadly most of them either also got let go or quit the company.
