Thread regarding Baker Hughes layoffs

I wish I was laid off

It is sad to see the consequences of mismanagement. As much as I was initially happy to have survived the round, just for existential reasons, I would now prefer to have been on the layoff list. I don't know anyone who got cut and who hasn't found a much safer job in the meantime, and the survivors here are just suffering in a prolonged agony. The situation is such that I hope to get cut as soon as possible, and I don't think I'm the only one?

I’m guessing we lost a lot of work everywhere. I’ve been noticing a lot of people visiting and establishing contacts at flex pipe. I’m not sure what they’re being told, but I don’t see how we house more managers & engineers even if we doubled our backlog. I guess anything is possible?

The hiring agency that Baker provides is cr-p. It’s a tactic to keep the masses calm during rif. You only have one option. Hang on until Baker closes. You’re cheaper than you thought. It’s not even political at this point. You have to be a VP to claim political strings.
I watch the internal dismantling of my division every day. There’s already rumblings of how our leadership is going to position themselves to run the new merger. I’ve got the popcorn ready, this should be 😌.

As a former employee who was laid off last year, I would say cr-p or get off the p-t. Find a new business opportunity. It's easier to find a new career when you have a job. To hope that you are laid off, if you don't find a new job with benefits within 6 months, your COLA is very expensive if you are an American.

Baker in the USA pays for a highering agency to help you out find a new career. Pretty much teach you how to search for jobs, update your resume, and tell you to post positive information in Linkedin so head hunters can see you. If you notice a lot of ex Baker people are posting fluff to make you feel good on Linkedin.

I think about this all the time where I'm at. Because I am the only one with particular certifications, I probably will go down with the ship. I think outsourcing what I do would be costly and inefficient.
I started with GE and obviously now Baker Hughes. Same people, different shirts. I know people generally say " Bad Management" when they dislike their job, but where I am is literally the worst I've ever worked for. Selfish, bonus whores, cut corners,..... I could go on forever. I just didn't think , Pandemic aside, that it would be this difficult to find new work. It has been. I don't want a lower paying job , worst benefits, just so I could leave. So I am stuck until I make a huge leap I guess.

Start looking for side business opportunities because one thing is for sure, you're only getting older each day. When BKR decides to cut you loose, if it ever happens, it's really not as glamorous as it may seem. Sure you dump the toxic environment, but unless you have something aligned to jump onto next, you're roaming around looking and looking for the next gig. And that's not even the real issue, the real issue is losing out on some of the employee benefits. I found it disgusting just how bad Obamacare is, the fact that pre-existing conditions are still even a thing, and just how exorbitant the premiums are. HOWEVER, I'd still take the pains of this over dealing with that toxic environment daily.

BKR is no longer the BHI of years ago. It's garbage.

I was on the hit list took it with both hands it’s been more than 6 months now never been happier, I’ve not been looking for another job as I was so well payed at baker’s and had saved and invested my money well, I would say good luck to those still working for baker’s but naw I don’t give a flying f&@k about any of you

100% agree. I’m hoping to be laid off but likely will be stuck here indefinitely
