Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Why Do Wal-Mart or Target not buy Kmart and Sears?

Why do the other retail gaints not consider buying the conpetition out and unify their legacees into one? If the end is near for Sears and the Big K, then why not go out on a high note and be frinds with an old foe. Wal-Mart could bring back KCafes in all the stores where MicDonalds recently left! How cool woud that be. Dueling speshals the roleback & blue light special. Two deal makin macheans wanting to save you money! Kmart & Wal-Mart or Kmart & Target or Sears & Low's!

You fools! That’s PLYMOUTH Neon if you want to make a proper comparison to Kmart and Sears! Not Dodge!

I wouldn't offend a 1997 Dodge Neon with any type of comparison with something Eddie owns.

Target is also not in Puerto Rico, which still has both a Sears and a Kmart across the street from each other in San Juan (Hato Rey).

Why don't I buy a 1997 Dodge Neon (with a state of the art cassette player) that has 200,000 miles on it? Because it's useless and nobody wants it, that's why. Same with this obsolete chain. DUH!

@1nty+1aPFVOUy Exactly. No need to "buy out" anything, they can just pick up the empty buildings if they want. And there are only 14 stateside Kmarts. Many of them are in weird locations like Hamilton MT, Marshall MI, South Lake Tahoe (or Taco), etc., LOL. I don't think anyone is itching to take over a store in that sprawling, cosmopolitan, retail Hotbed of Hamilton Montana, LOL! Come on now. Several others, like Miami, Freedom, White Plains, Avenel, among probably others are almost walkable to an existing Target (Check google maps). So they are already in those regions.

Of course, Guam/USVI are a different ballgame, because unlike the stateside stores that lose Money, those locations are Goldmines. But I don't think Ed will ever let those go. They might just remain as a regional specific chain, if you will, in just those 2 markets.

The only valuable Kmart stores that Target or WalMart would be interested in would probably be the Guam or USVI stores where they aren't established there already

Target has already taken over/plans on taking over several closed Kmart locations. They have no reason to 'buy them out' though, they just want the building.

Bridgehampton and the Florida Keys would be perfect spots for a Target.

In 2009 and 2010 Walmart explored the possibility of buying Sears for the appliance business. Unfortunately it never materialized.

No sane business owner would buy 2 losers and expect them to be successful.
Oh wait..... never mind.

It would make sense for Target or Walmart to take over some of the 14 US Kmarts too, if they are the only department stores serving their areas. I'm thinking especially of Bridgehampton, NY (definitely Target country) and Key West, FL (which already lost its Sears).

Why would they want it? For the most part, the locations that are remaining are not in prime areas or are completely run down, and they may have their own store in the vicinity already.......although taking over a few individual stores might make sense (like VI & Guam)!
