I have been trying to find a new job for almost five months. Having worked in this company for a long time, I have a lot of experience and I thought that I have gained enough skills here to go further.
However, now I see that working here I have almost lost track of time. Other companies went forward at lightning speed, and TD stagnated. I feel similarly, as if I have stagnated while working at TD while everyone else is improving their skills very fast in other companies.
Don't sell yourself short. Use your Friday afternoons off to start messing around with one of the hot new open source databases and become a contributor. Shouldn't take long with your general database experience. Once you put that on your resume, prospective employers will see you very differently.
tell me about it, I have been trying to find a job for a few months, have a few interviews, found out my skill set that I have accumulated/acquired in Teradata for the last 15 years was not really relevant anymore. I was really confident before, not anymore, so sad..
People underestimate how hard it is to find a job, especially when they haven't been in the job market for years. Best thing you can do is land a few interviews every year even if you're not planning on leaving, so you're job search skills are fresh if and when you really need them.

"Stop whining and invest in yourself." by doing things that are completely unrelated to your daily duties? So yeah, double my time instead of doing work that is relevant to the current world.
If you stagnate, it’s your own fault. No company owes you current skills. Stop whining and invest in yourself.
I agree with your statement as I'm having the same issue but I'm not sure it can really be quantified. Maybe the best estimate is simply "a lot".
On the plus side, I have my manager/Director completely snowballed. I just nod my head and agree that "we just need to work harder!"
