Thread regarding Optum layoffs

The tensions between Optum and UHC

For years, there have been tensions between the staff of UHC and Optum. Endless squabbles regarding who is in change and egos.

For me, this is the worst part of the job.

  • Worse than the constant threat of layoffs.
  • worse that the non existent raises
  • worse than the 5 layers of management
  • worse that the corporate rhetoric around gratitude and speaking only wen spoken to.

The only vision was profit and more. That's the vision. Employees were just for deductions, and theatre.

UHG staff transferred in and took over my old Optum dept and over the past couple of years got rid of probably 85% of prior leaders in the area. The only "new vision" they brought was to reduce staff by 50% and do the same or more work. Not sure why I stayed there so long, it is great to work for the better run company that I am at now.

Corporate Stockholm Syndrome is hereby defined as the phenomenon wherein employees of a business start to identify with, and are exceedingly loyal to, an employer who is manifestly hostile to their own self-interest. Such employers often demand long hours of overtime (even in non-crunch-time).

Why?
Are you asking WHY?
There are many reasons " Why"
Perhaps you were born into family that didn't offer much. Maybe you missed or there were no opportunities there for you to advance. Maybe you're a victim of your environment. There ate thousands of reasons why the majority of Americans rely on Capitalism especially because it's the system that's in place at the moment. Duh! It's not like we can just pick a piece of land to live on and grow our own food and fetch clean water if theres any around.

It was a system of endless psych ops, propaganda, someday yammer, and empty promises. The us corporation was the us and it manufactured consent using debt, taxes, forms, penalties, and CONsumerism.

It's not just UHC they contract with. OptumRx takes on many other clients. Often times employees are required to wear different hats throughout the day. It's like speaking different languages all day since each clients plan is different. Very dysfunctional and unorganized place to work. It's not that easy to just up and leave either. Especially if you're up there in age. We put our livelihood and trust in these corporations and in Capitalism. If you're let go from the company after many years, chances are you're not the problem and they should be making sure you're taken care of.

I’m glad someone else noticed that. It destroyed my prior department. Newly appointed SVP only lasted a little over a year. Interesting she was from UHG and transferred to OptumRX but had a vendetta against UHG as did the Directors in the department. OptumRX lost. Don’t mess with UHG.
