Even with all the reductions I still see many bloated areas in IBM. In your opinion, which ones need a haircut the most?

IBM’s largest problem is centered around management. There is an excessive number of Band10’s and above vs what the industry norm is. This causes VERY poor decision making due to folks trying to justify their jobs. IBM has always had this problem, and a culling of the herd is exceeding rare. The last culling was done by Gerstner an outsider who didn’t have the “Blue blood” flowing thru his veins. He made every band 10 and above reinterview for their job, and ended up cutting 50% of the management team (13 bands down to 7). AK needs to get on board with that, but after a year on the job there has been almost zero management reshuffling. AK for some reason can’t seem to pull the trigger on what is IBM’s primary ailment (excessive ineffective management). Fix that, and you have done 80% of the heavy lifting.
