Setting clear expectations

My big complaint to my superior is that I never know what and how much he actually expects from me. Everything would be much easier if he would set clear expectations for once. But no... he just doesn't know how to clearly state work objectives, numbers needed, requirements etc. Does anyone else face a problem like this? I feel so lost.

Being reviewed by 3 co-workers is seemingly fruitless. The supervisors have pre-conceived notions and plans for ones demise.

That was the vile US empire--a business opportunity only to make money off the populace/working slaves. It was sickening and so wrong esp profiteering off of the sick and the infirm.

Wow! This company sure does have a way of making people feel like their not good enough. They want to throw you around in different projects and make wear a different hat all day long. Very unstable. Your superior can't set expectations for you cause he/she doesn't know. The company is always changing things at an unstable rate. The truth of the matter is, people are not unhappy with the customer service you provide. The company metrics are a big cover up for the real problem. You see, people are really unhappy with their plan benefits and we are just the front face to re-explain to them what they already have signed up for. We also make sure we go over their options which really are not true options but at all but your job is to make sure you are providing them the correct answers. These answer are already there. You see people are fed up with high cost, denied prior Authorizations, limited formulary, coverage Gap aka "Donut Ho-e" Bad communication between Doctors and Company. I'm not too sure what Doctors and retail pharmacies have against the company but there's friction there. The problem isn't YOU! The problem is we have to bare the bad news that there's not much we can do but go over what they have already signed up for. It's a front to make it seem like it's the little people on bottom not knowing what we're doing. 🙄 But the customer knowing the truth still hits into the "Survey" metric system. Reviews have been low for a long time now and it's for those very reasons I mentioned. Not much we can do about the plan they signed up for. Not our fault they didn't ready the fine print about their Deductibles, formulary, coverage Gap and Copays. Oh well, someone has to take the blame for the Company and the customer. And that my friend is us. "Have I resolved the reason for your call today" Great take my survey everything goes against me🤷‍♀️

That's because it's Rank and Yank (no one told me either): http://performance-appraisals.org/faq/rankyank.htm

The annual report card is ambiguous and odd. Lots of vagueness and no expectations, just another box to tick. As grown adults, why anyone would subject themselves to reports cards and judgement by a "boss" was quite odd

My annual review has rarely had anything to do with my performance. It has more to do with stack ranking and my salary.

Most US tech companies have been off shoring engineering as much as possible in the last few decades and they still can't find enough talent. India, China, Estonia, Israel, Georgia, Taiwan,... the best all get scooped up.

Watching some American employees throw shade at their companies for not letting them do remote work. It's interesting.

They consider the half of the equation where they work in their pajamas but miss the other half where shamed employers can hire remote workers in Hungary, the Philippines, or Bulgaria for 60% less.

Totally the norm for my department. Every year I feel like I could be given a rave review or a mediocre review, it’s a coin toss. I’m self aware and know where I need to improve but when I’ve asked for direct feedback I get nada.

Yes my team has worked for years like this. Expect it to be used against you in common review and to have unrealistic metrics sprung against you. Sorry. They will say "just work your full 8 hours per day and you'll be fine ". Total jargon.
