Thread regarding Occidental Petroleum Corp. layoffs

Why would anyone want to be laid off?

There are indeed people who want be laid off, although I don't really understand them.
Their utopian story about greener pastures in companies that are ideal and without any problems is ridiculous, with management that pulls only the best moves and has the best visions...
Is there really such an ideal company?

Most oil companies are like this. Some days you question what they are doing and think you have had enough of the nonsense and may want to quit. Then the company or individuals do something right to make you want to stay. The big bonuses are quite the incentive to be able to put up with a lot of corporate nonsense.

Whoever wrote this must have never worked for Oxy or must have never worked for a company besides Oxy.

Oxy is the biggest case of unprofessional, untechnical and unknowledgeable people masquerading as competitive and competent.

I’ve contemplated quitting, but who doesn’t enjoy the circus every now and again? But that elephant sh-t stink gets to you eventually, forcing you to walk away. And probably without the CoC.

It is different for everyone, and those in the middle of raising a family might want to think twice before wanting to be laid off while the market for oil and gas jobs are so tight. Now on the other hand a person like me might want to get out and take advantage of the money the government is handing out now. Just today the new total the administration wants is 7 trillion dollars, and if approved the trickle down taxes will get all workers, and not just the couples making over 400K. I feel for the young professionals that will be paying much higher taxes to support the plan, and the social reform that is coming. Combine that with inflation and wages are not going to come close to keeping up with the cost of living.

Yes, there's quite a bit of research out there on companies that are in far better shape than Oxy. Maybe not in energy, but it's amazing what reading some books can do.

You should only hope for a lay-off if you have a job in hand or you are retiring. Otherwise it is just plain stupid in today’s job market.

No perfect company exists, but the vast majority have better executive management than Oxy.
