Risk of identity theft gives standing to sue
Telecommunications provider Altice USA Inc. lost its bid to escape a potential class action by employees whose personal information was stolen in a data breach, because the plaintiffs have suffered a sufficient injury to give them standing, a federal court in New York said Monday.
Cyber criminals targeted Altice with a phishing attack in November 2019, and gained aceess to over 52,000 current and former employees’ personal identifying information, including their Social Security numbers. Nine plaintiffs allege the company failed to take adequate measures to protect this information.
