Thread regarding Occidental Petroleum Corp. layoffs

Is anybody else constantly worried about layoffs even with no talk of any cuts any time soon?

So you had better advocate for a new VSP with good terms. I am sure they can spin it as synergies like the last time. But they need to drive away the very best and leave you with total lack of skills like they did before.

For those wanting layoffs, they changed the notice and severance plan in may 2020. It’s no where as grand as it once was. You can find it on OXYLINK.

No, I'm praying for it.

Yes but that’s just how it is in this industry, not an Oxy thing only. Try to accept it as part of the package of higher salaries and better benefits than most. If you find your anxiety overtaking you then maybe make plans to get out.

Image that, people asking about layoffs on a website dedicated to information about layoffs.

I keep telling you kids that there won’t be any layoffs until at least August 2022. OXY won’t layoff LAPC people’s because it will cost them a lot of money to do that. They don’t want to pay that money. Laying off only legacy OXY would be very unfair. They won’t do that either. The only thing left is VSP which many folks would jump at that chance. They should layoff people who keep asking questions about layoffs!

I used to, but not anymore. Here is more or less what I tried and worked. I told myself I am just going to do my best technical work I could, get along with others (without upsetting millenials) and help make my manager look good. If, still I am let go, then what the heck, at least I know I tried hard and it wasn't because of me, maybe probably some other factor I can't control. I got to think, well, heck, the company is missing me. Maybe I didn't belong to the right circle of trust. Maybe my manager didn't even have the power to do anything and typical Oxy, things end up handled higher above by folks who don't know the day-to-day. Do what you can control, save money and have a life, enjoy everyday.

Oxy should have another VSP for those who missed out the first time.

Why worry and suffer, when you can plunder and conquer ?

Actually, I'm worried there won't be (voluntary) layoffs any time soon. I have my reasons and would be more than happy to help another person keep their job if given the chance.

There isn’t anything I can do to control whether or not there is a layoff, so I don’t worry about them. If I get laid off there will be some number of month of severance pay and benefits. During the severance time I will worry about finding a new job, but I’ll do my best to find work and hopefully it will be even better than my current job. And, if I don’t find a job I’ll just sit back and wait for Auntie Kamala and Uncle Joe to send me my stimi from the tax dollars of those who are still working.

Join the crowd with this type of anxiety. Have you been messed with unfairly before in your career. It is a natural reaction to have post traumatic stress episodes every time the organization has a change. Most of us can’t trust the companies anymore. You could be a high performer and still get let go during a major cost reduction if they determine your position is redundant and you are highly paid. There is no security anymore so look out for yourself. Certainly don’t trust any CEO who says no layoffs. These are the same CEOs that say the dividend is the top priority and then cut it to almost zero.

Nope, LAPC protected until August 2022 from layoffs...after that, its open season, but hopefully gone before then.
