Thread regarding Teradata Corp. layoffs

How would you cope in marketing?

I absolutely agree with the poster who said that the mass exodus from marketing is to be expected, since marketing has to have something to market, and there is no such product. I'm not in marketing, but I already know that it would be very difficult for me to work there considering our products.

Marketing is the least of Teradata’s problems. Teradata is legacy and expensive. Bolting your database onto the cloud is not cloud-first. The best marketing in the world can’t fix the glaring product problems we have. I’m just glad I’m not in sales trying to defend this.

For marketing to do everything the OP said, they would have to have talented people who think outside the box and are industry leaders. Nope. It seems the directors are bu-t kissers and the managers are hanging on for the salary. The little guys just keep their heads down. Marketing programs are predictable and mundane. Teradata can hang on for years burning through cash and laying off people, but thrive?

You've got it backwards. Marketing is supposed to work the market place to identify what products customers need, then work with engineering to develop product requirements from which engineering builds products that satisfy customer needs. That's how it worked at TD before we were infected with NCR's limp tallywacker view of "marketing".
