It seems to me that having a long term career at BD is no longer a realistic option. These days there are too many layoffs and too few promotions that are not based on nepotism. Employees are certainly noticing - our team's attrition rate has been steadily growing for years. I wonder when the leadership will notice that we're having a brain drain due to this issue - if ever!

They’re too busy stealing peoples pensions
BD is a global company and there are opportunities to build marketable job skills that are just not available at smaller firms; the cost to the individual is increased workload and accountability. Its true that the revolving door at VP level means that new VP arrives, spends a year looking at what to change, starts the change (often many individual contributors will move to a new manager or a new project) and then the VP leaves between his/her 2nd or 3rd year and the process starts again. One path to agility is to focus on thinking about your career as evolving through multiple roles at many companies, not just roles at a company. BD may not really need your specific expertise any longer - and yet experts are always in demand.
There are so many issues I see at the moment with BD. High churn rate at the very top and bottom is one. This is worrisome as the big decisions and real work get carried out at these levels, many Mid level managers I deal with are incompetent but their salary-to-value ratio is high and they know it so they end up staying the longest. Seems to be getting quite top heavy and shockingly few real experts anywhere.
