Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Gee I wonder ...

If DELL is doing so well - the stock is going through the roof for quite some time now, their sales are expanding, etc.. I wonder if I apply for a Principal Eng or Consultant level job say in Massachusetts what salary they can give me.. Can they offer something like $220K yearly?

the extra pay goes toward the house/apt you will have to live in. It's all relevant.

nice!!

Serious answer: Principal Engineer in California salary range is between 140k to 210k. Sr. Principal could go up to 240k. They hired a few Sr. Principal 2 years ago at 220k. The next up (forget what's called) starts at 230k. I know someone makes 250k. Those are base salary.

Some people transferred from MA to CA got about 35k boost (115k to 150k) at Principal level.
Annual bonus 8% at Principal and 15% at Sr.Principal. Dell Principal's level is also lower threshold compared to other companies, so if they offer you Principal, push for Sr.Principal.

Seems like you will be better off remaining on unemployment.

So as a Consultant Dell can pay me more than $250K per year?

No, I don't think you will get $220K job. You need to have special qualifications or capabilities that are not found anywhere else in the world for less money.

Depends on years of experience, and areas of knowledge, but yes, I believe that isn't out of the realm of possibility.
