Thread regarding General Electric Co. layoffs

How much has GE disappointed you?

There's no way to handle disappointment except to get out of here. I didn’t get a job here so long ago and I was overjoyed because I thought this was a really good company. However, what I expected and what the company turned out to be is diametrically opposed. I am completely disappointed with this company, I thought everything was much more professional here.

Working next to someone making 12hr more than you doing the exact same job is the hardest part. I can't wait until I'm 50 to finally top out in pay.

GE was running on Past Glory. Now that’s long gone. Time to do a Hard Reset.

I looked at my pay stub online and realized working here is a mistake. Working for a normal wage with out the history and perks of working at GE. Ohh wait this is GE. Opps

It will remain a disappointment as long as the CAS, ITLP, DTLP, Crotonville ma--a is in charge.

I had the same General Electric experience described by the OP. First the good; my coworkers were some of the best people on the planet and amazing/intelligent coworkers. That's all the good GE had to offer. Now for the bad; MANAGEMENT:

GE Leadership constantly produce Buzz Words and Jargon (Made my group want to vomit)

GE upper leadership obsessed with pleasing Wall Street (Not successfully)

Leadership disconnected from the reality of making products for profit (Too many initiatives distracting them from reality)

Accountants became top leaders of complicated systems and products. Leaders should be engineers or top workers that had proven product expertise. Not expertise obtained from spending time jumping from manager role to manager role throughout their career.

Always planning a new restructuring efforts, non of which, made any noticeable improvement.

Always planning layoffs. With layoffs ALWAYS on the horizon, morale is always low. It's obvious that layoffs have helped GE's creative accounting methods for years.

Creative Accounting, nobody has any confidence in anything upper management tries to sell. We all know, it's a smoke blowing maneuver to appease accountants, investors, and to pad their bonus.

To all the people considering GE as a place to work. Don't, it will be a mistake.

It reminds me of high school shop class. Many unskilled laborers thinking they are Edison’s offspring. Or they think they learn a method or process and thing to themselves I came from $12.57 an hour to an Engineer status with the Achievement award icon.
