Nike gets to control the shopper experience more tightly and the prices at which products are sold when it goes directly to consumers. Nike wants to prevent products from being discounted too heavily.

The demand for Nike apparel and shoes will be high once they leave Macy's and retailers stores.

The greater concern in this story is the impact this decision will have on retailers such as Macy's which rely on leading brands such as Nike to generate consumer attention and purchasing.

Probably the only active wear that would stay at Macy's is Champion.

Nike is not alone in looking to exit partnership with traditional brick - and - mortar retailers. Under Armour is looking to leave thousands of wholesale doors; while Adidas is planning to have 50 percent of its sales direct to consumer ( D-toC ) by 2025.

Nike will no longer sell apparel directly to Macy's, but the Finish line at Macy's business will still receive products.

Most likely not all 3 will leave. Nike can leave and do their own thing because they own the largest share in the sports market retail business, they have $$$ to burn and can take the risk. Under Armour and Adidas will probably be more selective, they may decide to not be at Macy's in certain markets but they would probably benefit more from being at Macy's. Having said that, I have noticed that at the Macy's I'm at, we don't get as much under armour as we use to. We have been getting more Adidas and Champion.
