Thread regarding Shell Oil layoffs

I'd love to leave Shell

if I could find a better job at another O&G company. Sadly, no matter how hard I try there either aren't any available jobs or there are but the company is in even worse shape than we are. To be honest, I'm at an age where changing industries is not an option, which leaves me stuck. Any suggestions?

I left with Avanti, starting at an Independent Operator next month with ~ 20% increase. My prior manager was dicking me around with JG advancement promises for 2 years. Never happened. Had a nice little sabbatical, got paid severance and unemployment on steroids. Now a job that pays market value as well.

If you dont leave now, atleast lay the ground work (network outside Shell, be financially prepared etc) for the next shitshow that will inevitably happen in 2 years.

Just leave. I did. Was an easy decision after they canned all my co workers positions and off loaded all the workload to me. sc–w that, no bonus or merit increases, no chance of advancements all due to senior management decisions. It was easy to find another job across the street.

Why do you feel stuck ? A job is what you do , not who you are .Why are you worried about changing industries ?Regardless if it’s McDonalds, Walmart or Wall Street at the end of the day it’s just a job.

Within 10 months every oil major would have to hire people again.

Milk the cow for as long as possible, get yourself to be financially independent. Then leave.
