I used to work at Macys a few years ago, and Im looking into coming back but as a Visual Captain. Is this the same as Visual Manager? I heard there wasn’t any VM position anymore and the new role is Visual Captain. What are the hours and days that the Visual Captain work? Do they still do 40hrs Mon-Fri like the VM use to? Any info on this is greatly appreciated

Don't do it!
Visual Captian position is a scam.
Only get like 3 days to do visual and then merchandising the rest of the week.... I feel more like a merchandiser then visual captain
I got hired on as a visual manager and worked two days and then we got shut down. When the Store open end up again I got demoted to visual captain which was okay with me since I was new to the role.
What they didn’t tell me is that in addition to doing visuals all on my own, I would also have to assist with markdowns, fulfillment, on the sales floor, pricing changes, merchandising, etc.
Let’s just say I didn’t stay for long after.
My store visual guy only does visual things. He would probably quit if he had to do other jobs. He is overworked as it is. I can’t imagine him having time to do markdowns and such.
The visual captain in my store only does visual stuff. She will still assist in floor moves and stuff but she does not sign, do markdowns, fulfillment or anything else support wise. Our OVM tried to make her but she complained to the higher ups and they said she should not be doing anything other than visual.
Of those that were Visual Managers before the pandemic –
1) Most were laid off.
2) Some became OVMs
3) Some were offered Visual Captains positions, but most turned it down because it was a pay cut and lesser benefits because you are no longer an executive.
Most of the current Visual Captains were regular Visual Associates who now have additional duties (they mostly act as the go-to person when something needs to be done from a visual perspective). Every store is different though, so the VC job and the duties vary from store to store. What I do know is that they don't deal with managerial stuff like schedules and budgeting.
Like others have said, though, no one is called "visual" anymore, everyone is "merchandiser" so you'll also be doing signing, receiving, markdowns, pennies (and probably fulfillment if they are short-handed).
The Visual Captains, who were previously known as VM's, had to take a 20% paycut and are now designated as "colleague" not "leadership" anymore.
Unfortunately it is not the same. A VISUAL CAPTAIN falls under the Support Team vs its own department. You report to your People Leader which is the OVM (who used to be an MTM or a highly paid/experienced Visual Manager). Your job duties does involve Visual duties, but also add truck processing, merchandising, pricing and occasional lunch coverage of Sales colleagues AND clising shifts. ALSO, you are not "garanteed" 40 hours but you can pick up additional hours on the selling floor. If your a "multitasker" do it, if you think your back "beating a wig and thinking about your next creative project" ...well, I would reconsider. Good luck to ya!
I have seen our visual captain go back and forth between actual visual work, merchandising, and on occasion fulfillment.
Oh, and no more 40 hours, no hourly executive benefits either. HUGE step backwards
Visual Captain is an hourly job, and it's been transferred into 8030. You will also be a merchandiser too, cand probably have to help process trucks. Ours does. Works weekends now too. She should have taken the severance
At my store the visual captain does work Monday to Friday. It’s really hard on her though. She does everything by herself with no help.
