You can't be hoping that by some miracle your location will be the only one left standing, right? So why aren't you already somewhere else? I can't believe that Sears/Kmart is the only employment option, no matter how small your town might be. At least there's bound to be a Walmart or McDonalds around...

Because we’re a family, and sometimes that bond to the physical store means more than money, prestige, or a “better job”. Those still with TransformCo are truly committed to the Family, and have consciously made their choice to go down swinging.
There’s honor in going down with the ship, and I respect it.

It doesn’t matter what the sign over the door says, retail in general s—s. At least at Sears/Kmart it is slightly easier with fewer customers. Try working at Home Depot. They will work your a– off all day every day and the customers are very self entitled (ie contractors who are generally unpleasant to deal with and are all around jerks). Trust me, the grass is rarely greener on the other side.
I stay because I make decent money for doing nothing. Surf the web, drink coffee, eat donuts, take a nap. Then call it a day.

people are creatures of habit, if I had a Sears nearby I would still be checking in to see if there was anything useful for me. I would assume there are people who have dedicated their entire lives to the company and deserve to be treated gently in the end. People process loss differently
