Thread regarding Dril-Quip Inc. layoffs

Change the industry?

After many job applications, I got to the interview stage at an oil company that has a terrible reputation (because of layoffs) and another smaller energy company that is not doing much better with regards to this matter. Maybe the smartest decision would be to change the industry? I wonder how many people have totally left this industry lately.

Avoid the O&G industry! Really want to stick around in an unpredictable sector that inevitably gonna die? Get on the only fan's and make some real money!

I wouldn't be an undertaker.
That's a dying industry too.

One of the best comments on here , absolutely on point . The industry is done but many will not accept it. Fear prevents most from change but change can be good and change may be the only option you have as this industry dies. The DQ way was to bully your way into positions when you move to a happier place you will be rewarded for your skills and much much happier. It’s toxic and I’d advise everyone to leave while you get the chance .

Loads of people. I've seen folk from high paying jobs in the Oil and Gas Industry now working as Posties to a cleaner in the hospital and some that had trades prior, going back on the tools. There are jobs out there, maybe not great paying or what you want to be doing for the rest of your life but welcome to the real world. On the bright side it's always better to be in some kind of employment when looking for your perfect job, so take what opportunity's you get just now and use them as a stepping stone.
The Oil industry will eventually go like the coal industry before it, there will still be a need for oil and gas but not as much. It maybe has ten years left as a viable career, so if you don't retire before then get out while you can. The Climate change movement and it's need to be noticed following, are going to be the end of the Oil and Gas industry, it's already a dirty word in big business . The UK's North Sea sector is almost finished bar a few projects, Denmark has ceased issuing new drilling licenses/blocks. So it won't be long until Norway follows suit. The Norwegians have been ploughing their Sovereign wealth fund into other sectors for years now, to get away from the reliance on Oil & Gas.
