It's not only that people who are in some way related to or friends with somebody in the management are getting spared during layoffs, they're also allowed to barely do anything and leave the rest of us to pick up after them AND with all that they're favored for promotions. This can't and shouldn't continue.

what's wrong if managers only hire their friends?
These are the companies where people are hired from because their boss worked with them there including Yahoo, Symantec, and GE. Unfortunately, they all useless and incompetent. The majority of middle managers in Cloud Ops are Yahoo dummies and those in Infosec are Symantec stooges.
My manager slipped a bit back and let me know my teammates are his former colleagues :D
