Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Went to Sears today

Thought I would check out the Union Gap, Washington Sears today as I was passing through the area. All Sears & Kmart stores in the Portland Oregon metro area (where I live) have closed so I wanted to see what the current state of affairs looked like. The associates were super nice and friendly, but unfortunately the store looked really run down and lacking merchandise. Couldn’t even find the filter replacement for my refrigerator. I did find some cheap soaks and a filter for my air purifier (which I actually have difficulty finding normally). It’s really sad what the state of things are like at Sears FLS. Pretty much everything that has been said on this site about the lack of merchandise, etc is all true. Very sad.

Yes, it closes daily at 6PM local. One of the recent reviews on Google indicated that the store is mostly empty.

Regarding the comment on being "the best in the district", perhaps they just don't know any better. They drank the kool-aid!

Not that I could tell. I asked the cashier and he said they were one of the best performing stores in the district. What in the heck does that actually mean? District? There are 30 stores, how do you make districts out of that, unless they also put Kmart stores in Sears districts? Also, it was almost comical when he said it because I was 1 of 3 customers in the store. I wonder if the managers tell them to say that to make things seem better. Then again, just because you bet out other stores sales for doing $1000 in sales instead of $500 for the day doesn’t make you a winner when Home Depot does $180,000 on a bad day. It was bizarre.

That is really unfortunate and such a testament to why this company has failed. Why would you not staff the tool department, what an epic fail. When I was in the union gap store today the jewelry counter was the only register open. People were trying to buy clothing, tools, etc at a limited register with only tiny shopping bags or jumbo ‘Santa sacks’. Really sad state of affairs, but likely not the exception.

Never worked for Sears, but I frequent this site a lot....My last experience in a Sears went like this (about 5 years ago):

Walked in to do an exchange of some broken Craftsman tools. I was a huge Craftsman customer...I probably have about $20,000 in tools from Sears.

After standing around the empty tool department register for 30 minutes, somebody finally came around and told me they would have somebody help me because they didn't know how to warranty the tools. Another 20 minutes went by without anybody showing up, so I grabbed the tools off the shelf, dropped my broken tools on the counter, and left a note and walked out.

Is that really how a customer that provided $20,000 in revenue (probably $10,000 in profit) should be treated?
