Certainly, skill development is not something that depends on the company but on the individual, however some companies encourage it more than others. I wonder how much room you had here for your own skill growth?
After being laid off from Teradata where I spent more than five years, I struggled to get a new job and now I see that I was far behind the people in this new company when it comes to skills.

Heard these "boiler rooms" were hiring given recent churn: Jane Street Grp, Citadel Advisors, Citigroup, Cutler Grp, Group One Trading, Simplex Trading, Walleye Trading and Wolverine Trading.....
Oh and EDS is hiring for their cloud tech positions since you know, they were doing "cloudy" 20 years before the "big rainforest" and weather pattern folklores ....
Been gone for 2 years, was in Finance. Systems were very far behind or non-existent. Analytics were rarely if ever used in Finance...sort of ironic. There were a lot of smart employees, so that helped with learning...but that's hard to demonstrate on a resume.
I agree too. After I got layoff last October, and started searching for jobs, I realized my Teradata skill set that I have acquired all these years, was only relevant to Teradata internally. Teradata customer or other potential employer only interested in "Teradata solution", which I don't have, plus my age(60+) don't help me either. So far, I have a few 1st time interview, but nothing after that..
I agree, after my lay off I'd realized my resume may have been ruined by staying at Teradata for almost 10 years. The skills I picked up were specific to TD, and so far, not applicable to corporations out there looking to fill the same title I had. I'm finding myself playing catch-up by watching learning videos online to make myself relevant again.
I developed lots of skills during my time at Teradata. That's one thing they did well was the amount of training. Now at one of these new cloud companies we don't have any skills development. We're meant to do it on our own coin or go learn it for free. Training budget is non existent. Get as much training with TD as you can. Once on the outside you won't get as many chances.
Look at doing some of the certifications that other cloud providers offer. These are more valued. I did several of these while at Teradata and it made securing a job so much easier.
Be pro-active too - start your job search NOW; boost your qualification. DON’T wait and hope you’re not next out of the door.
I preferred owning my own destiny and not having it forced upon me.

Take as much LinkedIn training you can through Teradata University to acquire skills that are useful outside of Teradata. I think most of the training team was let go with the attack on senior employees. They still have sales training but you are better off reading a book off of Amazon.
Teradata's technology is far more than 5 years behind the current state of technology. Don't rely on what we're doing now to have any relevance in an interview anywhere else. Other companies are far, far ahead of us. Even though I'm still here, I work constantly to update my skills but I never use them here. Any time I try to bring something current into the company, it is immediately rejected with "that's not how we do it. We've always done it like this instead." At this point I'm working to find another company or hope that when the layoff axe swings, it provides a decent severance. From the friends that were hit last year and the ones that did early retirement, I'm not confident that will be the case.
