Thread regarding Fossil Inc. layoffs

How helpful is cutting costs here?

Cutting “costs” is more helpful to a company with well thought through, documented processes and effective cross-team cooperation; that helps with productively bridging self-created cost-cutting gaps in the foundation. When you are not that company, you are just creating sinkholes in your foundation.

The structure, silos, and lack of process remain as unnecessary problems regardless of how much is lopped off. I agree with the sinkhole metaphor, as we are solving no real problems, and failing to maximize the talent that remains. If we were using the lifeline created by the loss of teammates and excess real estate to actually do anything differently, then that would be one thing. But we are not; we just continue with the same fluffy inefficiencies and time and effort wasting, double or triple work, messing it up for teams down the line, no documentation, no evolution, no improvement...just the same, but with big fluffy gaps. And the gaps - the gone people - they knew things that are now not known and harder or maybe impossible to find out. Yes, sinkholes...that tracks.

Cutting cost will be only effective first, if they start firing all these people from management who are unnecessary and bad. Second, stop outsourcing everything to cheap cities.

For so many criticism aimed at Fossil management, this must me the fluffiest, least concrete I have heard yet - do you even know what you mean? Cutting costs means:1/ too many stores, close the stores and fire the people who work in the stores. 2/ marketing: it s all digital now, reduce traditional roles and the people who are not tied to digital. 3/ product: fewer SKUs, fewer brands, size the team for this
