Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Who would repeat this experience?

I was laid off in December, I had several options for a new job, but none were particularly much better than what I had here. I had to accept one of them because of existential issues. However, I know for sure that I would not come here if I was to do it all over again. So I was surprised by the thread about rehiring in Optum. Is there really anyone who would work here again?

During unemployment to keep checks rolling in you have to apply to a certain quota of jobs every week. Just keep reapplying. It makes no difference if you hate UHG or are planning their demise or just feeling desperate or just bored. It is easy if you fill out application. If you are black balled they will route out your application anyways and you can see for yourself if you are black balled from ever being rehired. But since it’s a computer that filters you as a yes or not for the job first screening, what can it hurt to reapply? ...meanwhile you do get to count all jobs applied for each as a job search attempt. Of course aim is to get employed but during the endless weeks of waiting why not select an application with UHG as new jobs posted weekly and just keep filling those out. Eventually they either hire you back or you are a reject that is accepted by another insurance since they need the experience you have and frankly many of your old coworkers are at the competition now who did just that!

If you dont have an employment contract, then, you're an employee at whim-will. They can willy nilly, hire you, fire you for any reason, or NO reason. Youre at their whim-will. The US company doesnt need to give you any notice or a why. That's the very unique US employment at will doctrine and why so many employees are in just bad circumstances.

I want to pay my bills, so I applied for any new job that I was qualified for. But I would never assume that I was safe anymore (as I used to before I was laid off). I ended up with a job elsewhere but I have the same attitude here. It's all day to day for me now. I manage my life and finances accordingly.

You would be surprised by the number of former employees who reapply. Many liked their positions pretty much but were part of unfortunate layoffs. Depts are so different as are job roles and workload.

Never ever come back. It's like a toxic relationship..all that nonsense therapy, talking it out, medicine, breathing exercises, long walks...etc..etc.. The boomerang club...eventually they leave too because they realize why they left in the first class. NEVER go back. Ever. rather live under a bridge before working with a farce of capitalistic dump that defecates on its teammates, and citizens of the village.

No. I have known some who came back to consult and left quickly after. I have to say for the most part if it didn’t work for you initially then move on. I only know of a few who come back and it’s not for long, same stress, less money, and not any happier. Move forward and be happy somewhere else. If they don’t want you, then move on.
