This place has made sure that anybody who tries to stand out gets punished by receiving additional work and nothing else. No pay increases, no bonuses, no promotions, nothing. So why would anybody even bother at this place anymore? I certainly know I'm done. The bare minimum is what they're getting from me from now on until I can leave this place for good.

Yup. 100% agreed. It is an a cult run by Indian thugs. That is vmware over the last 3 years. Staff is only there to do minimal to get the paycheck and have their own startups to work on.
It is racism, manipulation, greed, toxic, and every negative word in the book (or yet to be invented).
It is a dead end company.
As the old Japanese saying does, the nail that stands out gets hammered down. Similar behaviors with Indians as well. Which is why we all have the sense of doing the minimum because there is no motivation to do more. Additionally, hollow thank you’s and applause doesn’t inspire anyone either because we know they’re hollow. I am in the same boat as the OP and what triggered it was my Indian boss. It’s the old “do as I say” and “speak to me now, I’ll listen to you later” mgmt style.
Vmware is a dead company. Moral is zero. Racism and favoritism is the basis for hiring and promotions. It is a cult as someone else pointed out. You know that. Do not take it personally. It is just the culture. Does mot matter what you do. If you are not Indian, just do what you are asked to get paid. Toxic intimidation is daily practice at vmware. Do mot try to fix. It is a dead company
If you stand out by pointing out how any documents, website or marketing messaging needs improving you will get flamed. Nevermind if you are a security, networking or virtulization expert. The fluff bunnies in marketing will try to get you k–led.
