Bonus for getting Covid vaccine

Kroger has joined a growing list of large US grocery store chains offering incentives for workers to get the Covid-19 vaccine. The company announced that its associates would get a one-time $100 payment if they show proof that they’ve received the full manufacturer-recommended doses of a Covid-19 vaccine.

I find it strange comparing this news that the company generously gives 100 dollars if we get vaccinated and the news that someone posted in the thread below - that the company is closing stores to prevent paying four dollars per hour extra hazard pay. Thoughts?

The cost of giving the vaccine is higher than the company gets. They have been paying lists of ot with the clerks out with covid or quarantine at home. So yes it does save them money. I would like them to stop making everything bonuses. Your $100 I'd about $60 after taxes.

It’s not completely altruistic. They get to charge the federal government per vaccine and charge an administration cost. Hypothetically, let’s say each dose is $20 a piece, and they get to charge $20x2 for an administration fee, they have almost recouped that $100 incentive. It would be interesting to know the true amount they get to charge the federal govt, it may even exceed the incentive.

I'm sure it is a way to protect themselves from lawsuits by employees saying they didn't do enough to protect them from covid.
