Wouldn’t it be nice if leadership shared more information, any communication, on what was sent to the Ethisphere Institute so we could all see how CareFirst represents the associates work? We will just have to improvise the response.
Here are the Ethisphere Institute categories that are required in the evaluation of a “Most Ethical Company”:
10% Leadership and Reputation
• Legal compliance and ethical track record
CF: They haven’t caught us yet! Really, how much do they actually verify?
• Ethical reputation in the marketplace
CF: Sales smoke screen in full force!
• Awards and accolades garnered
CF: For ME! Man, this will sure look good for my next job!
• Examples of leadership local, nationally, and globally
CF: I can sell buck teeth to a beaver!
35% Ethics and Compliance Program
• Program structure, responsibility, and resources
CF: Structure – building is sound, Responsibility – I am very responsive,
Resources – I visit national parks often and never leave a carbon footprint.
• Program oversight and tone at the top
CF: I can look down at everyone from my ivory tower
• Written standards, training, and communication
CF: I share everything in my mirror, keeping everyone in the dark keeps
me from being accountable. Keep up the good work hatchet man!

CF: Wasn’t the compliance office terminated? If not, they are certainly asleep!
• Enforcement and discipline
CF: You don't like it leave! Ah… cut'em anyway!
20% Culture of Ethics
• Effort to establish ethical tone from top and middle
CF: Tone and integrity have left the building. Staff is tone deaf anyway.
• Frequent with which culture is evaluated
CF: Hostility evaluation? IT, oh wait I fired them, does anyone
have a tool to measure that?
• Methods and outcomes
CF: Take all the credit. Threaten staff, keep them off balance.
20% Environmental and Societal Impact
• Sustainability, citizenship and social responsibility
CF: Hire and promote id–ts, unqualified and unskilled, cut people to make room.
• Environmental stewardship
CF: Hey red head, what is the definition of stewardship?
• Community involvement
CF: I need to be seen in Public, add additional days of equity and action!
• Corporate philanthropy
CF: Associates are your subjects oh Grandiose Narcissistic ruler…
• Workplace impact and will-being
CF: This one is just hysterical! Pick a topic insert here!
• Supply chain engagement and oversight
CF: We have reserves and will use them, cut some more people to cover it
15% Governance
• Oversight
CF: Public vision of CF is my primary goal. Cut, slice, rip and dismember
to make my numbers look good. I sleep extremely well at night.
• Governance principles
CF: Fail early, hold the associate responsible for my mistakes
• Risk management
CF: I have complete control. Everyone with principles has left or is leaving.
Stewardship, isn’t that the person who serves me drinks on the plane? Hey red head, do you have that definition of stewardship yet?
Just because you can sell the pig in lipstick, doesn’t mean you exercise any ethical principles within the operations of the business.
