Do you think things are any better at Emerson now?

I feel the same way. I joined 6-7 years ago and at first I loved being part of Emerson. But after recent months with the layoffs happening across Europe it has destroyed any chance of career progression as I now know it is about who you know and not what you know. I am sure I will be on the list shortly to be chopped. Ah well. You live and learn.

Never been more unhappy with my career with Emerson than I am now. This company isn’t the same company it was 3 years ago, much less what it was 10 or 20 years ago. All of the fun has been s—ed out and I won’t be able to take it much longer. It doesn’t matter who you are, you’re just a number they will get rid of on their next knee jerk reaction. Loyalty and talent is no longer valued and if you’re not part of the “click” you can forget about promotions. Really sad because it use to be a great place to work, unfortunately that has changed.

It has already been told at my facility that some machines are being moved to Saltillo Mexico. There are rumblings that several high volume product lines are also being relocated to Mexico. This constant threat of losing your job to outsourcing is difficult to bear. It’s tough to keep going above and beyond to make a plant successful only to be rewarded by losing your job. Emerson wants loyal employees but have no intention of reciprocating. Any young employees should take your talents elsewhere.

Speaking only for my division (rhymes with appleton) turnover is a huge issue across all functions. Not enough staff and any positions are looking to be moved to “best cost” locations. Maybe theyre going to try and sell us, again. Who knows. Zero faith in the corporate leadership to do the right thing

Let’s just say that I’ve seen offices where the average age is close to retirement and can’t keep new employees. It’s not an encouraging sign.

They are not. In my location, quite a few of the engineers have quit in the past 2 months. Lal’s videos and his proposed changes for the company are encouraging but it will take a while to see if he will be successful.

The company is now moving away from the energy market and that’s bad news for a lot of employees. There will be no investment and growth as other “sustainability” segments get the attention going forward. I believe there might be further reductions across all the divisions that participate in the oil and gas markets.

Furthermore, the damage to the morale after a year of layoffs, no raises, and acquisitions during the same time, will take a very long time to recover. I believe the number of disgruntled and/or discouraged employees has increased significantly.
