How embarrassing for the company that nobody wants to be a manager anymore. Guess this is what happens when you put profits over people.

What in the world are you guys talking about, UP is a sh*thole, plain and simple, and if you're too stupid or inexperienced to admit it or just don't believe in your God-given talents, you're not going to find the great jobs that are out there. Everyone I know that left UP, including me, by furlough or having the sense that you could do better, has got a better job, a lot better. The only people, excluding the senior folks, that think the railroad is a good job are the ones that never worked there. Quit making excuses, take a close look in the mirror, have some self-respect, and get busy. Unless you only have a few years left, I promise you'll never look back.
Yeah i think people say the pay was great to make themselves feel better. Just take the L and admit you wasted a large amount of your time being poorly compensated and you learned a life lesson as did everyone.
There wasn’t a single OMT in my class, including me, who stayed for longer than a year. The ones who stayed for the full year only did so to avoid having to pay back their relocation packages. IMO, UP recruiters weren’t forthcoming about what the job would actually entail, and they omitted important details that probably would have caused many of the OMTs who ended up quitting to turn down the offer in the first place.
I’m not sure why so many people keep saying how great the pay was, since it was below the market average, even before you account for the 60+ hours an OMT worked per week, in addition to being constantly on call or traveling. Jobs with similar requirements at other F5 companies pay close to $200k/year + 20% target AIP. Travel is also to places like Singapore, not Doubledung, IA, or whatever the places where UP operates their loud, dirty trains are called.
The money isn’t great if you are working 80+ hours on salary on unpaid overtime. And when you tell your friend to research the company he’s going to go to Glassdoor and read people’s experiences. That’s what it is there for. Btw, the OP didn’t mention Glassdoor. Glad you found a new job as did most OMTs.
I agree with the posting about a lot of this site just being an echo chamber for people complaining about how UP is not doing the right thing on Glassdoor. UP is always going to take of UP first. I'd venture to say most companies do. I had a degree and got hired by UP. It was a mixed experience; always working, never home. Admittedly though, they sold that during the mass interview. It's not like they didn't warn us. But, I have experience with a Fortune 500 company on a resume and that is what I think most of us who left are doing. And through this process, I have learned what I value most out of work and a work/life balance. It was a teaching moment.
Would I recommend UP to a friend or another possible applicant? I would tell them to research the company and then tell them what my experience was as factually as possible. The money was great, but so was the stress and amount of hours worked.
The only way I’d apply for an OMT position in 2021 with Union Pacific is if they told me I could work from home. Hahahahaha
Most of them left of their own accord very willingly. Now they tell their former classmates and new coworkers the sh– show that UP really is.
How many OMT grads have been let go in the past two years? Plenty of them
Oh ok. Well you don’t have to capitalize Friend. See ye ain’t gots to be two smart to be a UP manger just follow the star in the sky. Thanks friend!
Spelling? Might be factor why you weren't chosen. Just pointing it out for a Friend.
100% true. UP is not being invited to career fairs, and the main people showing interest in management roles is existing field employees. They don’t need an omt class for that.
There isn’t much interest from traditional college students that attended state schools in going into UP management. And recently the turnover in these omt classes were almost 100% within two years. This was after they spent up to a year on training them. So it isn’t cost effective to have large omt classes with the lack of interest and everyone quitting. Now they just take people from the ranks and call them manager.
Wait a minute, you said this is a fake posting. Did you actually proofread your reply? You just about reworded the original post. You said many people will apply, but many won't stay because of the BS that goes on there. So why would anyone apply if they know they're not staying or will probably be laid off? Your answer was for the work experience. What experience are you referring to? Most new managers are the same. They get the position and think they're going to make the greatest impact on the company. When in fact they end up being the typical manager that so many on here have talked about. You said the glassdoor reviews don't matter. Well I hate to tell you this, but you're wrong. How do you think the UP got the title of worst employer? If you type in UP jobs, there's multiple links that pop up. The other links that pop up are the REVIEWS! Do you really think these college educated folks are going to overlook the low employer scores and reviews, and still apply anyways? Everyone of the prospective candidates will see that, because you don't even have to look hard. The issue you're overlooking is that the reviews do matter. If you read the article relating to worst employers, then you would've seen the glassdoor name mentioned. Still think the glassdoor reviews don't matter? I do agree with you when you said its a sorry place to work though. Many people are not applying OR coming back when called to do so. That is a very real situation going on right now. This company has hurt a lot of people.
This is a sorry place to work with PSR, but this is a false posting. Please don’t put stupid things on here just for effect. This is a great place to talk and get information on what is going on in different areas and we don’t need fantasy postings. No matter how much we don’t like our situation, there are many people with degrees seeking jobs that will work for UP, if only to get that first work experience. Many won’t stay due to not having time for a life outside work and the stressful conditions with the cutbacks. There is way too much emphasis put on Glassdoor reviews on this site. The only people that care about them are the ones posting.
No surprise, sounds about right.
