You can only recall so many times before the public gets wise to how we work:
Workers at Ford Motor Co.'s Louisville Assembly Plant received a labor relations bulletin this week gauging whether they would take a voluntary layoff for the next four weeks — potentially continuing the plant's woes.
The bulletin asked workers if they'd like to volunteer for a layoff from March 8 through April 4.
UAW Local 862 President Todd Dunn told The Courier Journal Friday that "the collective bargaining unit is meeting with the company to see what options there are so we don't have any break in service for our temporary full-time people, and we know we'll have need in the near future with vacation scheduling."
The labor relations bulletin comes during a difficult time for the Louisville Assembly Plant, which makes the Ford Escape and Lincoln Corsair. Ford shut down production at the plant for four weeks over the first two months of the year due to parts shortages — leaving 3,900 hourly workers at the plant will be without regular pay.
During those weeks in which the facility was closed, members of the United Auto Workers labor union received 75% of their regular pay.
