Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Can we boycott returning to the office?

I personally think it’s way too soon to go back to the office in Texas. I personally am high risk and the fact that they would do this after the mask mandate being lifted is disgusting to me. Is there anyway we can boycott or change this? People haven’t even had the opportunity to really get vaccinated and the majority of Texans are not vaccinated and vaccines are not available on campus either.

As usual, Exxon will figure this one later than any other company the same way we are way behind everything, from software to values to strategy.
Industries leading the market have incorporated flexibility and telecommuting. But not Dinoland.

You won’t have to return to the office after July 2021 when we all inevitably get PIP’d.

All employees are eligible to be vaccinated in Houston.

  1. Call 832-393-4220
  2. Press 3
  3. Ignore message
  4. Hold for 40-60 minutes. Don’t leave voicemail or request callback
  5. Tell agent you work in oil and gas as this qualifies you per Houston Heath Department guidelines

So you fear for your life but aren't willing to drive 8 hours to protect it? Reminds me of the people who are afraid the world is going to end in a few years due to global warming but still use the products which they claim cause global warming.

Every other desk is not 6 feet or social distancing and we know how exxon sweeps campus covid cases under the rug. At the very lease morale is going to plummet.

I’m not a sheep so I’m quitting. I’m not putting my health at risk for a company that couldn’t care less about me and would probably be happy to see me go with my salary.

So I am hearing from your post we didn’t lay off enough workers at Hughes Landing and Research Forest. Noted. Why do we even have those locations still with all the room available on campus?

So by your logic the counties that are vaccinating all adults are also unethical. What about the counties that are prioritizing based on race. How do you feel about that? How about prioritizing healthy school teachers? Our kids have been in fave to face school with no teacher deaths for months now.

Let’s not lose track of the fact that this conversation is about being forced to go into the office with little to no benefit while creating an unnecessary risk.

Those of you who keep posting about Midland need to understand that a majority of US employees are not based in Midland.

Also, if the local government in Midland has been giving the vaccine to healthy oil and gas workers during phase 1a and 1b, that is extremely unethical. Especially when you consider the shortage of vaccines in most parts of the country. Plus the fact that oil has been in SURPLUS throughout the pandemic and there would be no valid reason to prioritize oil workers in one region vs phase 1 individuals in other regions.

You may have to leave your home county. I’d say a little driving is worth it but I suppose not everyone sees it that way.

people are recommended to get on multiple lists to increase the chance of getting the vaccine more quickly. You do not need to be a resident of a particular county to register for a COVID-19 vaccine in that county – vaccine registrations at DSHS hubs are open to anyone in Texas. To see a statewide list of vaccine hubs with links to register for the vaccine at those hubs, click https://www.dshs.state.tx.us/coronavirus/immunize/vaccine-hubs.aspx

I doubt Midland is the only place in all of Texas where you can sign up to get vaccinated. Granted Midland is a special place but I don’t think it is so special that the rest of Texas doesn’t have vaccine.

Before you go hating on the male Bubbas as you call us consider what the world would be like without us. A world of people too afraid to do what needs to be done even if that involves some personal risk. Me and all the other male Bubbas who bled in Iraq and Afghanistan. A world of neutered male snowflakes is not a world I want to be a part of.

I am at a small site. One guy cut the strings off the bottom of his mask and only ties the top. When he breathes it flaps outward with each breath. Another has one of the masks with a valve that opens when he exhales. Others keep their nose sticking out. Those are just the ones that wear them. Others don’t even wear them. When in a conference room people sit every other chair or even next to each other with no masks on.

There should be plenty of room to spread out on campus with all the fired people gone. How bad can it be if people are still going to the on campus gym in the afternoon instead of doing actual work.

IF you’re unwilling ton YOURE UNWilling to get exposed to a serious and debilitating disease when your management says it’s no biggie, then you’re no Exxon material.
We value compliance and agreeableness above everything else.
Your “fitness” maybe questioned for separation- I mean- cost reduction tools.

A risk is a risk only when the boss says so.
Besides, none gets Covid on campus, they all get it elsewhere and never where in contact with anyone during the contagious period. safety first is only about recordables, not people.

Most importantly, workers are not to be trusted to work from home. We need to report to the office and pay daily compliments to managers to ensure their ego and mental health stays high. Everyone is replaceable but them.

Quit being so selfish and entitled. I’m an old and angry Bubba, and my manhood is threatened when workers say “science” and other fluffy things like “health” or have opinions. Real oil men (yes-men) take it on the chin.

I would be willing to bet our percentage of infections, hospitalizations, and deaths exceeds yours in Spring and yet we carry on. Quit your whining and looking for excuses. Go get vaccinated and move on. You think people are wearing masks properly at small sites? You think they wear them at their desks? Think again.

Who said you should drive to Midland? Figure it out genius. You expect me to post vaccine locations for every location we operate at? You must be one of those lazy a– HiPos who just take credit for the work of others.

People said post a link. People said energy workers weren’t eligible. Both counts proven incorrect with link. Also yeah people were driving to Midland from all over the state and out of state. Stay cowering in your house claiming you are scared to go to work and “they” are victimizing you OR GO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. If that means drive to Midland then yeah, drive to midland. Lose your victim mentality. I seriously doubt Midland is the only location in all of the US for you to choose from.

There is a lot of vitriol on these posts coming from sites that have a lot fewer people than the campus. On campus the masking behavior is almost non-sensical. People walk around with masks on, but take them off for hours at a time in closed off meeting rooms and at their desks in open plan sections. However, the biggest frustration seems to boil down to the fact that management has preached flexibility and bragged about the flexibility programs as a perk, but now seem to be taking that away for people who still need it. All on top of pretty much every other perk and compensation element that has been eroded during the past few years. Suddenly flexibility seems to be taken away, and the perception is that individual choices to look out for their own health or the health of their families will be used as a weapon in ranking, maybe not by all managers, but certainly by some. All for jobs that are done at desks, and largely over the phone anyway. Taking on this extra risk for no real reward feels foolish at best. This will more likely result in loss of trust and greater attrition.
