Layoffs After Hiring New Employees?

The past 6 months or so I’ve been seeing the signs/feeling like a layoff is coming to my team. However, this past week, two new employees joined the team. Does that mean that layoffs won’t be in the near future? Has anyone experienced this? Just finding it very strange given all the signs from management.

Done chasing the cheese. It's cray cray. A lot people dont have the ability to understand the corporate mentaliy. The gas lighting, the propaganda, the group think etc...it's insane. stuck in a hamster wheel.

Yes, the older workers are treated poorly. But cutting payroll is easy to get of older people and then dump the work on younger folks. I know right now that most of the workers that survive work 8 am to 10pm every day. Even Friday. Even some hours on the weekend.

No real long vacations. Due to senior management does not take any time off put heat on everyone else

But some departments skate and do not put in overtime at all. You see within a company each department is a company. And that company within a company can make your life wonderful or miserable. It all depends who is running that company.

You dont like the CEO or CFO, but I all care about is who my boss is and weather he believes in work life balance and fairness.

They are what’s wrong with the failed society. The people. No external force. It’s the people

In corporate America , if ur ‘old’ -over 50, 60 etc, you have few chances at real employments. Cesspool country

This company is very discriminatory against age. Don’t go to this company if you’re over 50. I have never been so poorly treated at a single Fortune 100 company ever and I’ve worked at many. Some of the discriminatory things happening to employees I haven’t experienced in my career for 30 years. The employees bully you and they do 360’s with feedback that is most certainly made up. It’s never mentioned to you until your annual appraisal with examples that didn’t even happen or are so very vague you can’t remember even doing it (to protect the people who back stabbed you). I am surprised this company gets away with treating their employees so poorly. Absolutely everything negative you’ve heard about this company is true! Don’t go there. They should have huge lawsuits against them! Layoffs are talked about regularly. It’s common knowledge. They are constant. They hire and layoff in the same year with different titles. I wish I hadn’t left a good job for this garbage. They even lie to you about your hiring job, expectation, bonus, title, job duties and when you’re upset they can’t imagine why. And I’m management. Poor leadership! Stay Away it’s toxic!

Anyone know of/hear about the OPAS team. Alot of them spent the day laughing and chatting while others worked as best they could. Sorry to sound mean, but I hope there's a tidal wave of layoffs with them.

employee "appreciation" was a bad joke. Instead of plastic trophies, paper certificates, cheap cake, etc... of you go girl/boy, how about something that actually helps for living, retirement, etc.. $$$$$.

Yeah you need to make as much money as you can prior to 50. After that it is just a lottery about who gets to stay on in corporate america. It is only going to get worse.

Being an older worker really s—s. This company treats them so badly. My experience is they are given a significant larger workload then the young ones. Ran into the ground and then let go. The work is then distributed among a number of younger staff members and with fingers crossed hope they can handle it

Employees don't matter. We are a tool to be used, abused, and thrown away when they find cheaper labor, whether foreign or not. It's their "business model". Oldies are not wanted, they're too much money, too much health care expense, and all that blather about 'ageism' is just blather. meaningless words without action.

Worked in a department where there was a new hire and a few months later 3 of the team members were let go. Didn’t work out very well. The team ended up merging with another team and the SVP was told to find something else. This is what happens when the more experienced and knowledgeable are let go. Not sure the reason whether is was salary or just age discrimination.

yes, they hire folks with different titles to take your work. Get rid of you job and title. I know because they hired a younger person to take my job. They also figured that younger person would work more hours since I am older. Perhaps have less sick issues in the future.

is it job discriminaton? of course. Difficult to prove since HR is pretty smart.

Saving payroll costs is a quick fix to meet earning targets. Short term but very effective.

They always have the option of having the older, more expensive employees train new employees before laying the old timers off. I wouldn't trust the company for one minute.
