It’s not news that this site is a problem site. It’s hasn’t been reliable in decades. Does trading really make that much money off this site to justify keeping it?

They will not sell the DP location as it benefits trading and also has their chemical facility. It is making profits for them. They also have most of their back office staff in Manila to take care of issues so all in all it is a win win.
Shell values money more than safety. That's why they choose the unsafe practice of running that derilect plant through freezes and hurricanes. That's also why it blew up in the 90s. Profits over safety every time.
In fact they must shut down ALL their sites and let trading generate profits. All of them are badly run and some are so for decades without improvement.
Deer Park went down in 1989 also when Houston temp was 7. Hubris is not learning from the past.
@tjm maybe but I doubt it. They've had year over year misses on their reliability and utilization targets. The reason they're in such a cluster f— now is because they decided to run instead of parking the site in anticipation for the freeze. Theres even guidance/documentation/instructions on how and why they needed to park the site if temperature drops below xx degrees but they chose to ignore it.
Looking at more recent history, has their cat cracker even stayed online for a full week this year yet?
It looks like a severe mismanagement issue.
Say what you want about Deer Park but if it wasn't for the partnership Deer Park would be turning a profit every month with the exception of the ongoing freeze issue they are recovering from.
