Thread regarding JCPenney layoffs

Be happy that you have a job?

No, I’m not happy to simply have a job. This is no longer a job worthy of a human being.
My store has only recently started new hours and this is driving me crazy. If this is a way to reduce or avoid layoffs, then they could have come up with another way to do it. This one is certainly not good. It doesn’t suit anyone I know and we all started looking for new jobs.

We online looking for work jobs now, I agree with all the comments, no word from the new owners or managers. Can we get some kind words of support instead of focusing on having people charge their cards or apply for one.

Also only working 4 to 5 hours a day. Most of my coworkers hating these new hours and the worse part is when schedules get changed without being asked because they always assume you will work whatever schedule they give you.

Same here, only working 4 to 5 hours a day. For many people this schedule is not working.

Total opposite at our store. The only people getting 35 or more hours a week are the supervisors. Those of us that averaged 35-38 a week are now only getting 30 max. We will definitely lose our full time status if this continues much longer. Even if they get us back up to 35 unless it happens soon we won’t be able to make up the loss and bring our average up to the 35 minimum you need to be considered full time. They have actually taken hours away from us and giving them to part timers who aren’t even needed unless they are cashiers. Taking hours away from sales support.

At my store they have been cutting part time workers and giving the hours to the full timers and mangers . I feel bad for the full timers but the part timers have bills to pay too.

Part of the new owners plan. Start reducing hours of employees who currently are 35 plus average weekly hours as of the last annual look back. Get them all down to at least a 30 hour average possible even 25. When the annual look back takes place September 2021 the majority of house will lose our full time status. I expect only management and supervisor to be full time. Their loss because once I lose the perks I get as full time elegible (ie: paid holidays, company paid life insurance, etc) I may as well work anywhere. No reason to remain.
