Thread regarding McKesson Corp. layoffs

They do not value technical talent

Good leadership focuses on retention of technical talent that actually does the work and enabling them to perform the work that needs doing, not saying it’s a blessing when you lose that talent that has an understanding of business and security in the environment.

Original poster @hwje+19pVeN19. It seems that this company will realize the mistake only after it loses all its technical talent?

Let’s see what everyone says about what the “toxic” leadership knows and doesn’t when you cash your MIP this year.

The new CTO/CISO office is just a bunch of checkbox checkers who figured that the cost of cyber insurance is cheaper than doing actual breach prevention. The cybersecurity debt they're creating will be paid by their successors.

"The reason is senior technical leadership is clueless has no technical skills to discern the difference between real achievement and some BS on some pretty slides." The problem is not the lack of explanation of a business case/value to "non technical business leaders" or "nontechnical stakeholders". The problem is the inept technical leadership/direction because they lack technical and organizational skills. They also can't sell what they don't understand.

Make. I mistake. Technical work must provide actual business value. It must be communicated in a way non technical business leaders can understand. They write the check. If anyone thinks this is not a critical skill for a technical person you’re head is buried in the sand. You don’t do technical stuff just to do it and because it’s cool. McKesson is not a merit based company especially when it comes to technical skills and actual performance. One of the big mouth senior leaders is always barking about making sure you have a great presentation to give as being more important than the actual value of what it is you have done. The reason is senior technical leadership is clueless has no technical skills to discern the difference between real achievement and some BS on some pretty slides. If, for example, you sit in on the DOM calls and think to yourself "these are a bunch of fing mo–ns" (you're right) move on. If not... welcome home to a low level existence. There are plenty of companies that will pay a lot more for real skills.
