Thread regarding Frontier Communications Corp. layoffs

YOUR JOB AINT GOING NO WHERE!

GUYS, as weird things may seem and keep you wondering how telcos like Windstream, Centurylink, Frontier, Verizon and ATT still exsists. Don’t bother with it, just know the US Government will keep all Telcos afloat because they have too. Especially now with a big push to get Fiber to the prem. The idea seemed to have died out because of 5G and micro cells. But due to the PANDEMIC, the FCC is pushing for FIBER TO THE PREM. And most Telcos have jumped on board with receiving more money from the government now to do so. Watch for new areas to receive FIBER and for a lot of techs to be moved around permanently to handle the load of new work in new cities across the nation. YESS!!!! EXPECT low seniority techs to get realigned 😵😲😮😯😬

You might want to do a little research into low orbital satellite Broadband service, and then consider how a cash strapped company like Frontier can compete with that, much less with any CLEC competitors not burdened by Union staff and contracts that decide to just start overbuilding FTTH.

I started here 14 years ago. Management and some co workers have already preached doom and gloom, you’ll never get another contract blah blah blah yet 14 years and 4 or more contracts later still here. Relax and chill the F out !!

Hmm., let me see, 14 years ago no bankruptcy, now No money, who do you think will go first, the senior guys who are chillin out under a tree and too dumb to retire and collect their lump sum or you with 14 years? think twice skippy. By the way don't put sleeping under a tree as part of your skills in your resume

Hey "Days are numbered"... You do realize that cell phones ARE wireless business, right? Even with the correction of the grammatical error, your reasoning is seriously flawed.

You state that "our market has residential usage at 1% and business at 35%", which begs the question, who's market? Are you referring to your specific location's territory, or Frontier as a whole? I would love to know your resources for these numbers, because I call b—s—. Total fiction, but forgivable considering the relaxed nature of this forum.

Yes, the lion's share of telephony is dominated by wireless customers... so what? I'm going to let you in on a little secret, all "wireless" technologies rely on the good old fashioned wired infrastructure. All those cell towers, and cell sites, and microwave relays are connected to..... can you see where I'm going with this? Yes sir, ILECs and CLECs and any other LECs you can think of.... are still a vital part of the equation.

I don't know how old you are, but in the not-so-distant past there was this little thing called deregulation... perhaps you've heard of it? I thought it was nationwide, but maybe it wasn't, so I will only speak for California. Deregulation and more recent sneaky legislation has declared that telecom companies are no longer utilities.

Has the traditional wireline business model changed? Hell yes, dramatically so, but that doesn't for one minute mean it's dead. What is stopping us from figuring out where the business migrated to... and adapting?

Why think in terms of days when making one overly simplified change can at least give us years to see what's possible?

I wish the government would buy Frontier. We would all make so much money and get great benefits

The wireless business is dead. Our market has residential usage around 1% and business at 35%.

Everyone has migrated to cell phones.
Businesses have too many competitive options other than an ILEC.

At some point in the future the government won't require an ILEC to operate as a utility.

lol yeah I've got a lake house in Idaho to sell if anyone is interested also! Ignore all the bankruptcy distractions, just normal corporate business as usual, definitely not a telling sign of a failed company. They will definitely keep the over paid union labor too, no reason to bring in cheaper contractors that can handle more jobs and provide the exact same skills of labor, not like leadership has an experience in making decisions about costs of labor and workforce reductions. Listen to this guy for sure, he clearly doesnt work for the union and just wants to ensure you keep paying dues and not asking questions. Its too late now to do anything about your dead end job, not going to get a lump sum payout anymore, the smart ones have left and now they only have you sheep to prey on.
